Klaus has 15 years experience in structured and project finance lending and advisory roles covering a wide range of infrastructure and power assets. His focus has been towards Renewable / Clean Energy projects in both developing and developed markets. During a long banking career Klaus has worked for major project finance houses (including HypoVereinsbank and Unicredit) both in Munich and London and has acquired strong analytical risk assessing skills combined with capital market and macro economic expertise.

Klaus’ renewable energy expertise was further broadened when he worked as Vice President in the European arm of Suzlon Energy B.V., a leading wind turbine manufacturer and developer, responsible for introducing international investors into the Indian wind market.

In 2011, Klaus was advising a multi donor funded entity on how to facilitate the development of renewable power generation in Sub Saharan Africa. Using funds from donor nations, a range of support instruments have been developed and proposed to the funders. In early 2012, the initiative has entered a “test” phase by way of applying the instruments proposed to real projects.

During his time as senior project finance executive Klaus was involved in a number of landmark deals including:

  • The first ground-breaking project finance deal in the Republic of Cyprus for a $100 million water desalination plant acting as MLA/Financial Advisor;
  • MLA on the $500 million debt financing for a wind farm portfolio sponsored by RWE’s UK subsidiary, the UK’s largest portfolio wind deal at the time;
  • MLA on a waste transaction (under the UK-PFI scheme) using a new technical process; client being an Australian company (total deal size: £330m debt facilities);
  • MLA/Financial Advisor on an acquisition finance transaction of an operating Landfill gas business in the UK; client being an Australian listed fund (total deal size: £70m debt facilities).

Klaus has a degree in business management (with focus on international banking and export and trade finance) from Fachhochschule (Polytechnic) in Reutlingen/Germany. He is fluent in English and German.
